Both yoga and mindfulness both require you to be relaxed so that you can experience them both to their full potential. If you are one of those people who struggle to get in the right mind frame, you are not alone. There are a few things that you can do in order to relax and get you prepared for these experiences.

Practice yoga and mindfulness in the morning

The majority of people are more relaxed in the morning. This is due to the fact that the stresses of the day have not hit you yet. I highly recommend that you perform these activities in the morning, maybe around an hour after you have waken up. This is not feasible for everyone of course particularly if you have to leave for work early. The most important thing is that you choose a time of day where you feel relaxed and you know you will not be disturbed.

Have some me time

Do something that makes you feel good about yourself beforehand. This helps to clear your mind, make you happier and generally just puts you in the right mindset. Some ideas for things to do to give yourself a little boost include a nice warm bath, reading your favourite book or even having a casual chat with a friend on the phone.

Ensure your environment is clean

A clean room equals a clean mind and it’s so important that your environment is clear so that you can fully immerse yourself in the activities. A clean environment will help to eliminate stress and will enhance the practices of yoga/mindfulness even more. If you have to spend a little time cleaning before you have a spiritual session, then so be it. Make the environment even more inviting by lighting your favourite scented candle.
